I've had the same vision in my stuck in my head before, except the figure was a dark headed male with a goatee...and the tentacles were coming straight out of the phone.
The disgusting monster that had the ability to reach you from a long ways off.
Ah, but the tentacles in this painting were not meant to be a direct reference to texting. Instead they represent a multitude of external forces acting upon the individual.
I must admit that the reference I was using included the cellphone, but I really didn't want to focus on it as a negative.
